Steve Carter's research at Family History Library:

1850 Census taken in Parma (Parma 2) Township, Cuyonoga County, Ohio. Dwelling 1608 lists Albert Baldwin, a farmer, who is shown as having four children. Note that little Francis, who at the time was four years old, is listed as Y female . " He has one sister and two brothers .

1860 Census from Aroma Township, Illinois taken on June 18, 1860 shows A. S. Baldwin and his wife (now Marin, not Marie) . He is now lo , and his older brother hasn’t left home, but now has a younger sister Marth .

Civil War a . February 24, 1865: Enlists in the Illinois 156*Infantry Regiment at Joliet. Paid $33.33 of the $100 promised bounty. Note his age and description. Also attached is a list of the other men in his regiment. Several are from Kankakee. Some may have been his friends.

b. From the war correspondence information, copied from alist of all of the orders issued during the Civil War, the following orders give you an idea of where the regiment was at various times:
i. Special Field Orders #81, page 107
ii. Special Orders #39, page 261 iii. April 14, 1865: Special Field Orders #98, page 354. Note the miserable weather conditions that day Lick Creek, detailed just above this order.
iv. Special Orders #66, Page 1014, June 19.
V - General Orders #80, Pages 1079 and 1080, July 14 vi. Undated report, pages 1102 and 1103: This regiment was reported along with various “Colored Volunteers” regiments. On page 1103, note that the health is reported as good, but the soldiers have never been paid.
vii. Temporary assignment August 25 : assigned as a Company Clerk.
viii. Mustered out on September 20, 1865 at Memphis, Tennessee. Still never paid anything.

1872 Marriage Announcements and licenses shows Francis and Iola received their license (or maybe got married) on August 22, 1872.

July 20, 1876: The Kankakee Gazette reports that Frank Baldwin was appointed as appraiser in the matter of the estate of Susan A. Rice. Revillo Beebe was the administrator of this estate. Revillo (1810–1895) was Frank’s uncle. Other articles mention that Frank was prominent in Republican party circles, and a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, mentioning his service during the Civil War.

1880 Census from Aroma Township, Illinois taken June 22, 1880. Francis, now 34, has a wife Tola, Age 29 and a little girl Lura, age 3. Death certificate – 1927.

Ruth Snyder remembers him, and said that even though she was a little girl, and he was blind with cataracts (and see what else he had from his death certificate ), he was still “devilishly handsome” and was thought to be a womanizer.

Most of the information in Baldwin's civil war record has been scanned and is attached. However, the actual entries from the National Archives were of very poor quality and couldn't be scanned. They're located in my file drawer.
