Note

Orlene's grandfather. Was a rough carpenter, building barns. Lived in Nortonville all of their life. Lived in town in the "Snyder property" where house was torn down; only thing standing now was the outhouse and a tree! Orlene has a picture of her grandfather standing by the tree.

Orlene used to keep her horse in his barn overnight when she rode her horse into town to go to school.

Orlene remembers him as being very tall and slender who doted upon grandkids. Grandchildren a "poke" of candy weekly. He helped Orlene with her math; he could explain it much better than the teacher. Also was very religious [7th day Baptist] and was a janitor and handyman at the church. She remembers the funeral.!CENSUS 1870 Welton, Clinton Co., Ia.
